The CDA has once again decided to make part of this year’s training budget available as training grants to individual trading co-ops.

Our aims are:

  • To help meet training needs in essential management and trade skills which cannot be directly met by the CDA.
  • To encourage and help trading co-ops to plan an effective training programme for co-op members.

how do you apply?

  • Applications must be for training which takes place in the current financial year (ending 31st March)
  • You should apply in writing to Dorothy Francis at the CDA, with:
    • a brief explanation of the training involved and how it will benefit your co-op
    • a copy of the course programme or outline of work to be covered by a consultant
    • total cost of the training or a quote (on headed business stationery) from the proposed trainer or consultant.
  • In most cases you should have a decision from the CDA within 14 days of us receiving your application.
  • Unless otherwise agreed, payment will be made to your co-op. We will ask for an invoice/claim together with a copy of the paid invoice or booking form from the training organisation or consultant. We cannot make payments to individual co-op members.

how much can you apply for?

The maximum amount is £200 per co-op. As we only have a limited budget applications will be assessed on a "first come, first served" basis. The sooner you apply, the more likely it is that we will be able to help.

In general, we will pay up to 75% of the total costs of the training. If you are a new co-op in your first year of trading, we may be able to pay the full costs.

further information or advice

If you would like more information or have any queries please contact Dorothy Francis at the CDA.

If you have identified a training need but do not know of an appropriate course, please get in touch. We have details of a wide range of courses and consultants and may be able to help. If several co-ops need similar training we may be able to organise a course at the CDA.
